The undefeated City College volleyball team celebrated another victory after defeating Modesto on Oct. 16.
The 18 – 0 Panthers were confident going into the game that they would win and proved to be correct. The Panthers started out strong in the first round winning 25-15 and stayed strong through the second round ending with a score of 25-17.
The intense third round was a bit rockier with ups and downs, but after a tough fight, the Panthers came out on top, winning with 25-21.
“We’re doing awesome. We’re 18-0 so can’t get any better than that,” said sophomore Alex Tkachuk. “I’m pretty confident every time we play…I knew we would win.”
Head Coach Laurie Nash is confident about this year’s team, even though they only have three returning players, and players who are shorter than last year’s.
“This years team, they’re a very defensive team and a hard serving team,” said Nash. “I’ve never been undefeated this deep into the season.”
The Panthers are the only undefeated team left in the state and are ranked number 1 in California according to the California Community College Women’s Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
Next up for the Panthers are Diablo Valley, Butte College and San Joaquin Delta College,. The next home game is Oct. 30 against Consumnes River College.
