Nick Shockey, Photo Editor
Nick Shockey is the photo editor and staff photographer for the Express. This is his fourth semester photographing for the Express.
Nick’s passion for documentary-style photography grew out of the pages of his childhood National Geographic subscription. In his early thirties, this interest then fueled his passion for urban photography in Sacramento. Nick’s work aims to inspire conversations about what it means to inhabit a blurred landscape, and the struggles to establish a sense of place in fractured communities. He examines the nature of fast-paced life and those left behind and otherwise forgotten by society. Nick draws inspiration from photographers like James Nachtwey, Chris Hondros, Nicole Tung and Lynsey Addario, and looks to also cover conflict and humanitarian crises.
When he’s not working or on assignment for the Express, you can find Nick wandering downtown Sacramento with his camera, capturing fleeting moments.
