RALLY ’ROUND THE FLAG | Growing pains

Christine Carey | Managing Editor
[email protected]

Recently my “at home life” has been pretty interesting in light of the fact that I live with some pretty interesting characters. I usually hang out at school with people who are interested in journalism, and because of what I have been through in my short 23 years of life, I feel as if I cannot relate to anything these students do in their personal lives at all.

They usually see me as someone who needs to act “more like a lady,” or the most immature person in their early 20s they have ever met. Honestly, it’s not that I’m immature, but the way I talk, act and carry myself is what I have been taught since birth. I grew up surrounded by men, lots of men.

You would think that I would be disgusted, annoyed and done with most of them, since the percentage of whom I associated myself with acted like chauvanistic pigs. However, during the most important years of my life, I was raised by my father. He was a little jaded from what he calls a “failed marriage,” but I grew up with his guidance.

I grew up with Star Wars, Hot Pockets, skateboards, dark humor, dead baby jokes, hereditary drug addiction and a so called “inappropriate/famous word” in the Carey household, also known as f***.

My father has always let me learn from my mistakes, and even when he knew I was going down the wrong path, he let me go there, knowing I would learn from it.

Spending hours conducting experiments in hopes of finding cures for common diseases and ailments can be stressful enough, having to buy large quantities of each one! Many people would think that growing up in this type of environment wouldn’t leave a lot of room for intellectual growth, but assuming such a thing is a lack of good judgment. My father informed me the American government also learned this way, but I was doing a better job.

To sum things up, his guidance led me to believe that the government, like a troubled teenager, is full of lies, and believing otherwise is naive. For instance, I think some events that happened on 9/11 need to be investigated more because there’s too much evidence pointing to a lack of barely any evidence at all.

They say all evidence was incinerated in the fires at Ground Zero and so forth. If this is true, then explain to me how the highjackers I.D. cards flew out of their pockets on the plane after crashing, survived hundreds of gallons of jet fuel and ended up intact on the ground where some government official picked them up. That’s just improbable, yet I’m not surprised the public believes it.

This happened at the site of every plane crash—how surprising. There also are no recordings of the plane that crashed into the Pentagon, even though the place has higher security then a virgin with a chastity belt.
I can’t even get into the other things I think the government has lied to us about, but I know one thing. If I wasn’t raised in an imperfect environment where being a heathen was normal and Murphy’s Law reigned supreme, I wouldn’t have suspicions about the government.

The government is the father of this country, and at the expense of sounding like an incestuous monster, I think our father needs to stop covering up and show the country the big problem, regardless of how small he might think it is.
Because in America, size really does matter.
