Admit it. You race home in order to watch “Grey’s Anatomy” or “Family Guy”. Whether we care to admit it or not we plan our lives around TV, talking about the next big show with the hot all-star cast or wondering who will be crowned with an Academy Award.
You get home after a long day of work and you sit down on your comfy couch with a bucket of popcorn and a glass of wine. Now it’s only you and your TV, sharing an intimate experience of you transferring to another world.
Hi everyone, my name is Genevieve Jerome and I am your new features editor. Welcome to my review column. Here I will be reviewing local events along with anything artistic that may be going on at City College, feeling free to give my two cents on actor’s ability and student’s creativity.
Being an experienced TV watcher and actress, I’m always looking for an actor’s ability to move me with their words. With 21 years of experience in the acting business, I know a thing or two about theater, films and the arts. Enough about me, let’s talk about all things creative offered at City College.

First off there is the popular City Theatre which shows many plays a year, which I will be giving my opinions about. A second awesome staple is held every spring semester called, “Acting for Film Class” taught by the quirky, talented Roger Hoopman. During the semester I plan on sneaking into Roger’s class to review his student’s scenes and tell you all about them. Third, is the ever popular Cultural Awareness Center. With countless events per semester, I will have my hands full reviewing the speakers, singers, poets, and others who come through.
Fourth on my list is the fine arts department which has many wonderful class offerings, even though the art building is currently under construction. They even have body drawing, which I may go and sit in on and let you, my readers, know how strange and exhilarating it is to watch body drawing. Two semesters ago, I had no idea City College had a fashion department. Let me tell you, these classes sound amazing. From beginning sewing to historic fashion, there is something for everyone. City College offers incredible, artistic classes to all going here. I urge you to check some of these classes out.
And in case you were wondering, along with reviewing plays, music, dance, art and photography, I may also review a movie from time to time or do a compare/contrast to what was popular a few years back, to what it huge today. I’m constantly curious to find out the effects art has on our culture and the youth and hope this column will help fuel it.
I would like to wrap this up, by saying thank you for reading and please, if you have any questions, comments or story ideas, please send an email. Happy arts and I look forward to dishing out my thoughts!
