The City College wrestling team officially opened up the season Saturday Sept. 17 with a victory in the KLS Air Express Invitational, an event the Panthers hosted.
The Panthers had champions in four individual weight classes. Teammates Raymond Angeles and Devon Silva were co-champions at 133 pounds, a decision Coach David Pacheco had no problem with because of their effort.
“These two worked so hard to get there,” Pacheco says, “they decided to take a co-championship.”
Derek Lee Loy won first place at 174 pounds and Jerrad Kirk at 285 pounds. Trevor Wright was champion at 184 pounds and named the KLS Express Invitational Most Outstanding Wrestler.
City College also had three second place finishers in Morgan Sauseda, 125 pounds; Hunter Minton, 149 pounds and Forrest Gray, 197 pounds.
The Panthers’ next match is Saturday, Sept. 24, in the West Hills Tournament in Lemoore, Ca.
