Unhealthy air continues; City College will be closed all week because of heavy smoke
Northern California continued to the blanketed by heavy smoke from the Butte County Campfire Sunday, causing air quality in the region to remain at unhealthy levels for the second week in a row.
The Los Rios Community College District announced by RAVE alert Sunday afternoon that all campuses will continue to be closed until Nov. 26 after closing Nov. 13 when unhealthy air quality was at its peak.
The Camp Fire burning in Butte County broke out Nov 8. destroying the entire town of Paradise, California, and has now become the most deadly in California history, surpassing the 1933 Griffith Park fire in Southern California, according to Cal Fire statistics. The campfire has claimed 76 lives as of Sunday morning with over 1,200 people still being reported missing. The fire is 60 percent contained and has burned over 150,00 acres, including over 12,000 structures, 10,000 of which were family homes, according to Cal Fire.
