A Los Rios police officer used pepper spray on a crowd Friday to break up a fight during a game between Sacramento High School and Folsom High School at Hughes Stadium.
A video posted by ABC10 shows the officer spraying into the crowd.
The Los Rios Community College PD Policy Manual says that officers are authorized to use certain “control devices,” including oleoresin capsicum spray, known commonly as pepper spray.
The manual says that chemical weapons, including pepper spray, should be used “only in situations where such force reasonably appears justified and necessary.”
According to Gabe Ross, the district’s media contact, the investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and there are no updates. He said there were reports that one person was treated on site after the spraying, but no one accepted transportation for treatment.
No arrests were made by the Los Rios Police Department.
