
Editors note: Police have arrested the suspect in the crime of indecent exposure in the parking structure on Oct. 20 and he is now in custody as of Oct. 28, according to the Los Rios Police Department.
Los Rios Police Department extends its gratitude to all reporting parties for their assistance in helping the police department locate and arrest this individual.
Witnesses have reported several acts of indecent exposure in October on campus, the most recent being in the parking structure, according to the Los Rios Police Department.
The latest incident was reported by a female student on Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. in the parking structure. She witnessed “a man masturbating in the direction of Hughes Stadium,” according to the Los Rios Police crime bulletin.
The witness described the man as an African American male, approximately 5-feet, 7-inches, shoulder-length hair, possibly dreadlocks, wearing prescription glasses and a grey hoodie.
Another report of similar activity was reported to the Los Rios Police. On Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m., a female student was studying on the third floor of the library studying when she heard a peculiar sound coming from behind the bookshelves.
“She heard a slapping noise and looked over to see that the perpetrator had exposed his penis and was masturbating,” according to the police.
According to The Los Rios crime bulletin, “the culprit was described as being an African American male in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 5-feet, 6-inches in height, with short hair and a medium build, wearing glasses, a grey short sleeve shirt, and dark colored jeans.”
No suspects have been arrested, and police have not commented if the suspect is the same person in each incident.
The police department has advised students to take precautions such as:
- Stay alert to your surroundings and keep high value items out of sight.
- When possible, travel with another person. There is safety in numbers.
- If you must travel at night, walk and park in well-lit areas.
- Know where you are going. Walk quickly and confidently to your destination.
- Avoid carrying unnecessary items.
- Hold purses, briefcases and packages tightly and close to your body.
- Have your keys out and ready before approaching your car.
- Check both the front and rear seats of your vehicle before entering. Lock the door immediately upon entering your vehicle.
