Los Rios Police and City College Health Services developed a new plan for faculty and students on how to respond to medical emergencies starting fall semester, stating campus police should be contacted first, according to an Aug. 24 email.
Los Rios Police dispatch should be contacted immediately in situations where 911 is called to guide emergency medical services to the correct location. Wendy Gomez, City College nurse, said campus police have a quicker response time and should be called right away in cases of emergencies.
“You never want to call Health Services first,” Gomez said. “Dispatch will call us and we respond the same time together. We can usually determine if 911 needs to be called.”

Cases of minor illness or injury on the main campus can go directly to Health Services. If further care is needed, transportation can be provided by campus police or a college nurse.
Alex Luna, a chemistry major, felt the new emergency response plan will be a good policy for the campus.
“This will be a good way for everyone to follow in case of an emergency,” Luna said. “That will be helpful.”
