City College football defeated Diablo Valley College 41-35 in overtime in the California Community Colleges Athletics Association East Bay Bowl game Nov. 22, closing out the season with a 7-4 record.
Diablo Valley Vikings were in control of the game throughout the first half, and went into halftime with a 28-14 lead. The Vikings scored on their first drive of the third quarter and took a commanding 21-point lead.
The Panthers did not give up, however, and scored 21 unanswered points late in the second half, tying the game up at 35-35. After a Vikings blocked field goal, the Panthers forced over time.
The Vikings got the ball first in overtime, but their attempt at a field goal was blocked for a second time in the game. The Panthers scored on their drive on a pass form quarterback Jason Samuels to wideout Devin Benjamin.
Samuels won offensive MVP, throwing for 371 yards, 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The game’s defensive MVP was awarded to Panthers’ linebacker George Stone who had 9 total tackles, including 4 sacks, and a pass breakup that almost turned into an interception.
