Israeli-American activist, writer and poet Moriel Rothman-Zecher will be speaking out against the current occupation of Gaza and share his previous experiences living in Israel at City College’s Cultural Awareness Center Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 1:30 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.
“He comes to us because he is part of a national tour,” said Riad Bahhur, history professor and coordinator of City College’s International Studies Program. “Sometimes we hear from local organizations that we have relationships with, like the Sacramento Peace Action Coalition, so he actually comes to us through Jewish Voice for Peace.”
Rothman-Zecher will discuss his nonviolent activism over the past three years against the current occupation of in Palestine, which resulted in him spending time in an Israeli military prison in 2012. He will also share his experiences organizing demonstrations overseas in the East and West Bank of Jerusalem.
Rothman-Zecher will speak on the several protests and events he attended in Tel Aviv, Israel’s second largest city, against the recent bombing of Gaza, and the response he received from police officers and civilians there.
