After a fire in 2013 claimed Land and Curtis park’s beloved Crepe Escape, the building stood vacant until this week, when the new restaurant Meet & Eat opened its doors to the public.
Meet & Eat is sleek in design, with ample seating for large groups, and an open-air gastro-pub style patio. Heaters on the patio keep in the warmth, and large garage-style doors will surely be open in the summer months to allow for the breeze.
The menu is simple and the chef is not taking any risks, rather adding his own spin on standard popular menu items that will undoubtedly go well with the beer and wine list when the restaurant is granted their liquor license.
The underlying South American theme is undeniable, with a burger called the Yucatan, served with chips, salsa and sour cream, and the taco bar with your choice of meat or fish.
The food quality and the portions are very acceptable, but the price is high if you order something as ordinary as the chicken club like I did.

The service was very good, and the staff professional, but as I began to eat my sandwich, I quickly learned from the people around me that I should have ordered a salad or burger because that is where Meet & Eat shines.
The sandwich was not bad, but it lacked any of the flare one would expect from a $14 meal.
The house cut fries were perfect, but the chicken was flavorless and the avocado was not ripe enough, rendering it bland. Bacon and toasted Brioche bread stood alone as the best part of the sandwich and made me wonder why they didn’t ditch the club and replace it with a B.L.T.
Like all restaurants in their formative days, Meet & Eat will make some changes, and I plan to return after they have had some time to take a breath and adjust, if for nothing else than to sample the housemade pork belly sandwich that I should have ordered.
Meet & Eat’s menu also features salads, hamburgers and sandwiches, where most will find something familiar and appealing. The restaurant features breakfast before 11 a.m.
Meet & Eat is located at 3445 Freeport Blvd. seven days a week from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
