The Learning Skills and Tutoring Center will have a workshop on Sept. 28 on exam stress where they will be teaching coping techniques, relieving dread and preparing for tests.
Poor study habits, low self-esteem and past negative evaluations from professors are some of the causes of test concern, according to the Learning Skills and Tutoring Center.
Steve Gonzales, a City College math professor, said there is good stress and bad stress. Good stress relates to studying, doing homework and staying motivated. Bad stress relates to being overly anxious and nervous.
“If you think poorly during a test, then you will do poorly on the test,” Gonzales said. “The brain tends to concentrate more on the worry than the test.”

Austin Owensby, a graphic design student, said he still gets scared even if he prepared for an exam.
“I still have to cram before the test because I get scared and I know I will fail,” Owensby said.
The workshop will be held on Sept. 28th from 2-3 p.m in the Learning Skills and Tutoring Center. Workshop for October will be held on Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. and Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
