City College welcomes back Alianza’s 2nd Annual Beyond the Dream Conference. The Dream Conference will be held in the Student Center here at City College on Sept. 27 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Beyond the Dream Conference is an outreach conference for undocumented high school students, known as DREAMERS, created by college students.
“[The conference is a way to] give back to our community because we know that information needs to be shared,” said City College Learning Resource Division’s Marisela Hernandez, founder of Alianza and organizer of the Dream Conference.
The goals of the conference are to help spread awareness to students, educators and the community about immigration policies, according to Hernandez.
The conference will also establish partnerships with different departments in the college, give students and their families the opportunity to safely voice their concerns and opinions about issues in the community, along with a few others.

This conference lets high school students know that they too can pursue their dreams and reach their goals,” said Rhonda Rios Kravitz, Dean of Learning Resource Center at City College.
The free event will feature workshops on financial aid,for DREAMERS, college outreach and a few others. Bilingual workshops will also be offered, as well as childcare and lunch.
“Had this conference been available while I was a high school student, it would have helped me greatly,” said Ernesto Gutierrez, a graduate of City College and former DREAMER. “Together we as alums and other dedicated professionals are working together to make this conference a success for all immigrant students and their families.”
Ernesto Gutierrez will be the student speaker for the Dream Conference.
With the addition of RISE, Puente, EOPS, Sacramento State University and University of California Davis, 120 high school and community college students are expected to be at the Dream Conference including family members and educators.
