This is the time of year when many people come together to enjoy the day Christ was born. Those who celebrate spend time going out and buying a Christmas tree and gifts for their loved ones. Seeing the look on someone’s face when a gift is opened is priceless.
Giving is important, along with bringing joy to your loved ones. But I think some people forget the meaning of Christmas. It’s about giving, not receiving. Giving and helping changes a lot of people’s lives.
Christmas giving is more than getting presents. It’s about being thankful, caring and helping others. Children should also know the meaning of Christmas: giving back to other kids who don’t have a good Christmas.
When I was young, I always got what I wanted, but I always wanted more gifts after I opened my presents. I would get mad when I didn’t get everything I wanted for Christmas.
But the reality is that some kids don’t get anything at all. I didn’t think about what I had and how I had family who cared and loved me when I was a kid. Sometimes I didn’t realize how good my life was. I didn’t appreciate the meaning of Christmas. Half the toys I got, I stopped playing with after about a week.
Parents can educate their kids about giving back to others by suggesting they donate some of their gifts to others. There are so many people who need help and are barely getting by. There are so many young kids who don’t have anything at all. Many are homeless with no food and are fighting everyday to survive.
It would have changed another kid’s life to have the toys I got when I was young. Christmas is about loving and coming together and giving something special to someone. It’s not about receiving gifts alone.
So this holiday season, consider giving something to someone else. You’ll be surprised how good it’ll make you feel.
