Spring break as party time

Goofing off is hard to do

Spring break: a week filled with endless parties, basking in the sun, and the constant sound of that one guy yelling, “shots!” This may seem like a typical college student’s spring break, but as a City College student, I like to use spring break as a freebie week to tie up some loose ends so I can come back to school fully armed to take on the end of the semester.

The typical MTV spring break is just another scripted reality show to me. My spring breaks have never been so exciting, and I’ve never felt that I could just drop everything and jet off to Mexico. Do people really get to do this kind of stuff? It’s just another thing to romanticize while I’m spending my spring break running errands around town and trying to figure out the true meaning of the movie “Donnie Darko.”

I would use the week to get caught up in school by doing a bit of extra credit to make up for the days when I felt that I could no longer go on because I was so exhausted from juggling work, school and friends. This is my first spring break where I don’t have a work schedule to adhere to, so I had a bit of time on my hands.

My goal for this spring break was to erase from my mind all of the stress from school, so when I come back I would have a clear mind to be ready for all the cramming to be done for the end of the semester. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against partying on spring break. That was one of my methods for clearing my mind. Even though it cleared my memory of a Wednesday night, it’s still a good way to blow off some steam.

Whether you jet off to Cabo San Lucas for spring break, or just hang around at home, it’s still a time for students to do what they have to do, so that they can be ready for the end of the school year. Let’s face it, when we come back to school, it’s back to the grind, filled with late-night study sessions to get ready for finals.

So with spring break over and finals week quickly approaching, I say bring it, I’m ready.
