City College’s women water polo team fell short of a victory on Oct. 13 against the Delta Community College Mustangs, losing by a final score of 2-15.

“It was frustrating,” said Steve Hanson, Panthers women’s water polo head coach. “Things were out of hand by the first quarter. Delta had a good lead, and we let them get too comfortable.”

With the team still trying to build chemistry, the Panthers were overmatched from the beginning of the game. Communication problems and a lack of physicality ultimately contributed to the Panthers ninth loss of the season, said Panthers water polo player Kara Gottfried.

The team needs to improve on taking care of the ball to prevent opposing goals and team lapses, Hanson said.

“For the next game, we will be working on communication, being much more competitive, and making the other team work as hard as they can on offense and defense in order to score,” Hanson said.
