Governor signs marijuana bill

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill Sept. 30 decriminalizing the possession of up to 1 ounce of marijuana in California.

What was once a misdemeanor will be an infraction accompanied by a $100 fine starting Jan.1. Previously, the possession of 1 ounce or less of marijuana would be cause for arrest, along with appearing before a judge.
