With two wars and capitalism’s implosion this last decade, I’m glad we’re still getting entertained rather than getting ready for a revolution, or are we?
After binging on $9.50 popcorn and $5.75 sodas, my fall movie picks mirror the themes of our time.
“The Company Men” — the movie, which stars Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner and Tommy Lee Jones, centers on three men who are trying to survive a round of corporate layoffs and the impact it has in their lives. If your current plan is to get out of college and go work for “The Man,” you might want to watch this movie and put yourself in the plot.
“The Tillman Story” — every student should see this documentary because it’s a media frenzy anytime government lies are exposed. This film is about Pat Tillman, the most famous soldier in America. Tillman was killed in Afghanistan by friendly fire, not by an enemy as the military had originally reported and his family go on a crusade to reveal the real story behind his death. This is a great documentary about the Tillman family’s fight to separate the truth from Pentagon propaganda. The release date for this film is August 20, 2010.

“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” — an Oliver Stone sequel to the 1987 original in which Michael Douglas won an Oscar for best Best Actor. This movie will be out in theaters Sept. 24, 2010.
“The Social Network” is a story about getting rich while capitalizing on America’s narcissism. The film is an amazing and comical story about the rise of Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg’s, complicated road to having “500 million friends,” and his personal wealth of $2.4 billion. Mainly, 23-year-old Zuckerberg tries to be taken seriously within a corporate board of directors and the establishment.
“Due Date” is a comedy, out Nov. 5, 2010, has Zach Galifianakis as the odd sidekick to straight man, Robert Downey Jr. The two go on a road trip so Downey can make it to his child’s birth. Sorry. I didn’t mean to offend anyone by not picking one of the typical “formula” movies. Enjoy, my friends, because entertainment is in the eye of the beholder.
