Tony Rodriguez, the Co-Sports Editor for fall 2020, has been working with The Express for two semesters. Being offered an editing position for The Express came as a surprise to him as he was working hard his first semester without knowing he would be asked to move up.
“I am hoping to expand my portfolio and skills, as the Co-Sports Editor before I transfer,” Tony said, “I will take any opportunity that presents itself to me, the experience will help me appear more hirable in the future.”
Rodriguez plans to work in Journalism long-term and has enjoyed his time working with The Express.
“I worked really hard my first semester on the Express, and did not think being an editor was an option,” Rodriguez said, “then they asked me to help Keyshawn [the current Sports Editor], I was excited for the opportunity!”
Rodriguez’s interest in journalism began as a kid when he wondered who was behind the words he was reading in magazines and online. He loves basketball and his favorite team is the Sacramento Kings.
Rodriguez plans to transfer to Sacramento State in spring of 2021 to pursue a major in journalism major. His long term career goal is to publish on his own.
Rodriguez works with middle school students, as a tutor, helping with distance learning and schoolwork.
