City College students got the chance to meet with college representatives Monday during Transfer Day in the Quad. The Express went out to get the college’s take on the event and the transfer process.

“Financially, it’s just a lot,” said business administration major Cashmere Harris. “Academically, it’s so hard because transferring from high school to college is so different. It’s just hard to juggle all the work that we get so I feel like that’s probably going to be a little bit of a burden when the time comes.”

“It’s actually been really straightforward, because I knew that I wanted to do TAG to U.C. Santa Cruz, and my major is psychology, so it’s pretty straight-forward there,” said psychology major Jorge Calderon. “I learned a lot about U.C. Davis requirements today and a few other colleges here. Maybe that is a good back-up plan.”

“So far it’s been great. I got to talk to the two major colleges that I want to transfer to, U.C. Davis and Sac State,” said photography major Lorena Torres. “I just came back this semester, but it’s been about two to 10 years that I’ve been out of school.”

“I plan to transfer in the next year. The college I’m looking at right now is U.C. Davis,” said biology major Nickolaus Ballard. “I did look at one other college today, because I really like doing music, and one of the representatives there mentioned that I could also do biology and minor in music, and possibly get a scholarship for it, so that was really cool.”

“As much as possible, take advantage of events like this,” said City College President Michael Gutierrez, who was out in the Quad during the event. “This is a two-year college. If you were in high school, this would be your junior year, when you would start thinking about going to a university, and that’s the way you really need to think about it. If you’re here only two years, be thinking about transferring now, not second semester of your sophomore year.”
