Clear blue skies accompanied by warmer than average temperatures for a February day in Sacramento set the perfect scene for a day of softball at The Yard, the common name for the City College softball field. The Yard is located next to the City College baseball stadium. However, unlike the weather, the Panthers were anything but perfect to start game one of their two game day.
In the top of the first inning the Panthers defense registered four errors leading Siskiyous to score four runs. Two of the errors made in the inning were by City College third baseman Jostyn Bebout. It was a short outing for City College starting pitcher Gabby Ortiz, who was replaced by Kali Sargent with two outs in the first inning. After the first inning was over, the Panthers seemed to settle down on defense and would not commit another error for the rest of the game.
Down 4-0, the Panthers’ bats came alive in the second inning and cut into the Siskiyous lead on a 2-run home-run by City College right fielder Kiley Bair. In the fourth inning, the Panthers once again brought runners across the plate, and even took a 5-4 lead on an RBI single by City College first baseman Megan Anthony, just over the head of the Siskiyous second baseman.
