City College says good-bye March 8 at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento to two professors who were married to each other and served the campus.
On March 2, professor Laura Toohey-Maeda, an adjunct history professor, died three days after her husband, City College sociology adjunct sociology professor Wayne Maeda. Both died of cancer. The couple had been married since 2008.
Toohey-Maeda, 64, had worked for the Los Rios Community College district since August 1991. Maeda was 65 when he passed and had been a professor at City College since 1989. Maeda also a Sacramento State professor and, according to The Sacramento Bee, “was one of California’s leading voices on Japanese American history.”
