Crowds of students strolled about the Quad April 23, visiting the various booths set up for City College’s second annual Health Fair.

The fair had booths set up with health information on a variety of topics, like eating healthy, the value of vitamins and sexually transmitted diseases. There was also a blood drive and a table where students could sign up to become bone marrow donors with Blood Source. Demonstrations from different physical education classes were also performed to give students an idea what classes the Physical Education Department offers.

Nutrition professor Jessica Coppola had a table for students who had inquiries about their eating habits. Coppola’s stand provided charts that showed students how to count their calories. Coppola used protein bags and shakes to demonstrate how easily people can miscalculate on how much protein they really need.

“The average American gets more than twice the amount of protein that they need during the day,” Coppola said.

City College nurse Wendy Gomez explained the health fair was designed to offer help to students and provide them with health information.

“It is designed to help mind, body and soul,” Gomez explained.

Aside from information on health related issues, students were also able to give back to the community. There was a canned food drive and a donation drive of art supplies for UC Davis Medical Center.
