For some, a coach may be someone who just teaches a sport, but for City College’s women’s track and field team, Head Coach Lisa Bauduin is much more.
“She’s different in a good way… she’s on us more than just track-wise, but with school,” says sprinter, hurdler and kinesiology major Samantha Esperanza.
Bauduin has been running and participating in track and field since junior high school. She graduated from North Dakota State with a degree in physical education, coaching and health.
She began her coaching career at San Francisco State University , and after 11 years coaching at SFSU, she transferred to City College in 1989.

Her success as a coach is due to her uncanny attention to her athletes, according to those who work closely with her.
“She is very detailed in everything she teaches us and [is] very passionate at what she does,” says Carmen Knighton, nursing major, pole vaulter and relay sprinter.
Bauduin brings her work and personality off the track and into the lives of her students. She connects with them and strives for them to be the best they can be, her athletes say.
“Part of our role [as coaches] is to be role-models and to help [our athletes] with life decisions,” says Bauduin .“You are a financial planner, taxi driver, coach and counselor.”
