The most appalling meal of the day

“Mom, can I have cake for breakfast?”

“No, but if you fry that cake in butter, then top it with more butter, corn syrup and powered sugar, I’d be happy to make it for you.”

I present the pancake.

Yes, what many of us consider an acceptable breakfast is pretty appalling. Coco Puffs, Jimmy Dean’s breakfast sausage and hash browns, toasted white bread with butter and jam, how do we trick ourselves into thinking this is what we should eat for the most important meal of the day?

You should always eat breakfast. It’s the energy boost that will get you through the first half of your day, plus you metabolize it faster than any other meal.

Kidney problem is likely to be linked with the stress. buy viagra The drug will not yield its effect in cialis prescription http://mouthsofthesouth.com/locations/page/10/ 10 to 15 minutes which is known to cause serious side effects. If you are running late and have time for only two pieces of toast on your way out the door, take the toast. But, do yourself a favor: Make it whole wheat toast, because white toast turns into sugar in your stomach almost immediately after you eat it, while the fiber in whole wheat slows down the transformation of a complex carbohydrate into sugar. Keep in mind that sugar as a concept isn’t bad, but it, like any other significant source of calories, should be accompanied by some other kind of nutrient, like fiber.

For toppings, minimize butter and jam. Jam has a sugar to fruit ratio of 1:1, and you don’t need to spread it a half-inch thick on your toast. Use hummus. The earthy, tangy flavor will go well with whole wheat toast.

If you have the discipline to get up 20 minutes earlier than usual, have oatmeal. If you make it right, it’s fantastic.

Bring one and 3/4 cup covered water with a dash of salt and a splash of vanilla extract to a boil. Add one cup of traditional Quaker Oats and cook covered over medium heat for five minutes. Watch it carefully or it will boil over. When it’s done, pour it into whatever bowl will fit all of it. Add a few shakes of cinnamon, a heaping spoon of brown sugar, a splash of milk and a small handful of dried blueberries.

The blueberries are cheaper dried, and if the blueberries sit in the oatmeal for just a minute, they will reconstitute themselves, making them burst with juices when you bite into them.

Your breakfast of champions will have 10 grams of protein and eight grams of fiber.

You won’t hear me say this very often, so enjoy it. Skip the wine. Have your breakfast with a cup of tea or a glass of orange juice.
