EDITORIAL

Sac City Express May 9, 2009
Healthcare is an issue few politicians want to touch, especially since Hillary Clinton was publicly torn apart for proposing universal healthcare in the ‘90s. Now, thanks to a rejuvenation of the progressive movement, universal coverage in the U.S. is looking like a possibility, and it’s about time.

After 87 years of paper and ink, it is hard to imagine that print may cease to exist for The Express.

RALLY ‘ROUND THE FLAG | Hollywood as Capitol Hill

We went from Paris Hilton to 9/11 during a one hour long conversation. If that’s not the epitome of a dumbass American, I can’t tell you what is.

Spare change? | Taxing patience

Sac City Express April 24, 2009
Now that tax day has passed, we can all take a deep breath. Not until this time next year do we need to worry about our W-2s or rifle through old receipts wondering what qualifies as a deduction. Some, however, are finding it harder than others to put the insanity behind them.

Spare Change | One nation, under God

I don’t envy Obama. He assumed the presidency at a time when it seemed like the very foundation of the government was crumbling beneath our feet. With all this talk about the economy and the security of our banks (I’ve started keeping my money in a shoe box), it is easy to forget that there are still many other issues affecting this country: One of which is gay rights.

Intellectually Unchallenged

Sac City Express April 3, 2009
My political science professor told a story last week about a student in his class at Sacramento State University. He had just returned some papers and all of his students were upset about their grades – this particular teacher is very demanding, and not many students had received a good grade.

%@!#ing in class

Why is it so easy for a professor to get a cheap laugh out of City College students?

EDITOR’S NOTE | Looking out for myself

Sac City Express March 23, 2009
During my daily commute a few weeks ago, 30 miles along the Highway 50 corridor, I realized how much I enjoy the ride on furlough Fridays. My usual stop and go, brake check, brake check, brake check ride into downtown was smooth and took less than 30 minutes. I actually said out loud, “I hope they keep up with these furloughs, this is great.”
