Volleyball captain an all-around team player

More than half way done with the season, and undefeated so far. That’s what the women’s volleyball team can say, and what captain Emmie Moroski can always remember being a part of.

With only three returning players and seven new freshmen, Moroski is excited to be back as returning captain.

“I don’t stress often,” Moroski said. “Even though we are undefeated as a team, I don’t take my eye off the prize in the end. Every game I just try to improve.”

She had a sprained wrist in the beginning of the season, but she didn’t let it stop her from playing.

“I only hurt my wrist,” Moroski said. “It wasn’t really anything though.”

Moroski, 19, wants to continue volleyball in the future at a four-year college.

I definitely want to transfer in the future and continue playing volleyball. I just don’t know who with yet,” Moroski said. “As of right now, I will basically play for anyone who will take me.”

Between volleyball and schoolwork, Moroski rarely has free time. When she does however, she likes to hang out with her teammates.

“She is a very dependable person,” said friend and teammate Monica White. “Emmie is like the mother figure on the team.”

Also, Moroski and her teammates run the stadium, lift weights and do sprints together.

“She’s encouraging to everyone,” teammate Breanna Warnock said. “And even though she’s quiet, she can be very loud at times too.”

So far this season, Moroski says her favorite moment has been winning the San Jose tournament.

“It was the first time we played really good teams and won,” Moroski said. “Delta and Santa Rosa were our top rivals. It really just jump started the season for us.”City College volleyball coach Laurie Nash says Moroski is a joy to coach.

“She is a selfless and encouraging person,” Nash said. “She is all about teamwork. It has been an honor to see Emmie improve in her volleyball skills, not only that, but as a person.”

Moroski was voted Most Valuable Player out of about 200 girls at the Delta Tournament. She was also voted MVP at the San Jose All-Tournament Selection.

“We are halfway through our season and still undefeated,” Moroski said. “I would like everyone to come out, watch a game and help support our team.”
