Meet your editors: Jason Pierce, Co-editor-in-chief
Jason Pierce never expected to become a journalist, but after 16 years of truck driving, he knew he needed a fresh start in life. He enrolled in Sacramento City College to study photography, and as he worked on the Sac City Express, he realized that it was something he wanted to devote himself to.
Two years later, the 39-year-old is this semester’s co-editor-in-chief of the Express. He said he is especially committed to helping people understand things they didn’t experience personally and covering social justice issues. His experience attending the Standing Rock pipeline protest solidified this.
“Though I have always been someone who stands up for injustice, it was being there that showed me I could speak up with a much bigger voice,” said Pierce.
Pierce will work on supervising and putting out quality content for the Express, and said that he hopes to use his voice to tell stories all over the world in the future.
