It’s the fall semester and for students working on the compilation CD from DiverCity Records, City College’s student record company, it’s talent scouting time.
According to Gabrielle Beatrice, City College music business professor, some of the musical talent at City College, showcased in a live quad performance on Oct. 28, may end up on the next compilation CD released next semester. The performance promoted the compilation CD and gathered participants for DiverCity Records.
This semester, Beatrice is preparing her students for the process of recording a CD independently. The focus will be entirely about creating the title, theme, and artwork of the disk, as well as searching for students within the college who have what it takes to be featured on the CD.
“In years past, a lot of our submissions have been rock, hard rock, rap and hip hop, sometimes we get some jazz,” Beatrice said. “I think it really reflects, to some extent, the student body. [It’s] a lot of general urban music that appeals to young people.”
