A panel of six community and campus leaders presented their views of leadership to the student body in the Student Center March 17.
Although these community leaders have different occupations and credentials, they were in unison with their message: There is no one way to become a leader, and anyone can be successful.
City College Vice President of Student Affairs Michael Poindexter led the panel composed of Sacramento State University professor Jazz Kaur, Legislative Data Center product manager Ed Sanders, former Red Sox’s player Willie Tatum, City College Dean of Learning Resources Rhonda Rios Kravitz and Dr. Lue Vang, student success specialist III at Sacramento City Unified School District.
“As all of the panelists here have discussed, there is no one way, cookie-cutter approach,” Kaur said. “There is no perfect formula, no one-way approach to becoming a leader or accomplishing your goals. You just have to work hard and learn how to ask.”

Event coordinator Tanya Anderson considered the event a major success.
“The panel members said some really wonderful things and I loved it,” Anderson said. “They were passing on wisdom – whatever they went through the students were able to hear that.”
The event, titled “The Many Faces of Leadership,” was an open forum and part of a three-part leadership series presented by City College.
