Swimmer Hannah Archibald’s dedication is clear from her commitment to the City College swim team.

Archibald wakes up and goes to practice from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., Monday through Friday.

“It’s usually pretty hard, like at least half the morning I contemplate going back to sleep but I usually like make it, or almost always make it,” Archibald says.

But waking up isn’t the only reason that demonstrates her commitment.

Head swim coach Steve Hansen has high praise for Archibald. He feels that she has a great work ethic and it is great part of the team.

“She is in this year and was just obviously a bright spot in the program,” Hansen says. “She’s competitive, she works extremely hard. She has tremendous character and it is an honor to be her coach.”

“You can definitely tell she is one of those people who time manages, knows what needs to be done, takes care of it, thinks about it and looks for ways to improve,” says Ronda Mohr, assistant swim coach.

Archibald started swimming when she was 10 years old. Her love for swimming began right at her pool at home. Eventually, she started swimming in the city league in Sacramento, where she says she was not only able to swim, but was able to get away from the scorching Sacramento summer weather.

In high school, Archibald mostly did free style, but now she does individual medley and butterfly stroke. She still does some freestyle swimming though.

Overall, Archibald says she has enjoyed swimming in college. She enjoys the size of the team because it is easy to know everybody.

“We mostly get our own lanes so that’s a good thing,” Archibald says.

Swimming is bit part of Archibald’s day and she loves it because of her coaches and teammates. She feels her overall experience on the City College swim team is swimmingly great.
