A famous Civil Rights leader will speak at one of two separate ceremonies this week to honor students graduating this spring from City College.
Dolores Huerta, co-founder with Cesar Chavez in 1962 of the National Farm Workers Association, will be the guest speaker Wednesday, May 7, at the Honrando a Nuestros Estudiantes – Honoring Our Students event. Recently portrayed by actor Rosario Dawson in the 2014 film “Cesar Chavez”, Huerta has spent her life fighting for the rights of farm workers. The event, which honors Latino and Latina students is sponsored by the Los Rios Latina/Latino Faculty and Staff Association, will take place 5:15 – 8:30 p.m. in the City College Performing Arts Center.
On Tuesday, May 6, the Sacramento City College Foundation along with the Honors and Awards Committee will host the 2014 SCC Scholarship Ceremony on campus.
This year’s SCC Scholarship Ceremony in honor of donors and recipients will begin 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The annual event gives thanks for the generosity of individuals who give money to scholarships for City College students. Additionally, according to Phi Theta Kappa Vice President Tashi Nacario, the ceremony is a way for the school to publicly pay tribute to the academic achievements of its students.
