City College’s Express newspaper and Mainline magazine won big at the annual Journalism Association of Community Colleges conference, which took place at the Double Tree Hotel by Arden Mall March 26-28. Nearly 600 students from 50 community colleges attended the event.
Mainline magazine, a City College publication that comes out once each semester, won four awards and a general excellence distinction, the highest journalistic standard for community college magazines in the state.

“It was nice to be recognized for the professional level of publications we put out,” said Express editor in chief, Nicole Cardoza, who attended the conference. “We also got to hear a lot about where journalism is going. It’s good to hear that the Express is going in the right direction with its new online focus in the fall.”
The awards presented to the various California community college newspapers were based on mail-in entries from articles, photographs and other published pages. All mail-in entries from The Express came from the 2008 school year.
