Maggie Woodworth is a staff writer for the Express. This is her second semester writing for the Express. She covers environmental and science news, and is particularly interested in the intersection of environmental challenges and social justice issues.
Maggie has long carried a passion for the natural world and telling its stories. She spent her childhood in rural Ohio overturning rocks in quests for red-backed salamanders and writing stories about the antics of her leopard gecko, Stitch. Forever pulled in different directions by her love for science and her love for writing, she attended The Ohio State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in evolution and ecology with a minor in professional writing.
Maggie works as a wildlife biologist, advocating for California’s threatened and endangered species such as the California spotted owl and the Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog. Maggie enjoys working as a biologist but continues to feel pulled toward writing. She believes the world needs straightforward and inspiring science communications now more than ever. After her time at City College, she may pursue a master’s degree in science communication.
