A little before 1 p.m., City College faculty and staff signed into the Student Center Feb. 9 and offered their suggestions on how the wording of the 2016 Strategic Plan could better reflect the college’s educational goals.
Small groups were formed as attendees listened to each presentation and discussed their thoughts on what was clear or unclear on the proposed mission and vision statements. Suggestions were made to change or reword some portions of the plan to create a better understanding of the district’s goals.
“It’s important to know what direction the college is going in and trying to be a proactive member of that,” said Dana DeMercurio, adjunct assistant professor of communication.
The end of each group discussion led into a larger discussion with the entire room sharing their group’s opinions.
The meeting covered the proposed vision, mission and goals, as well as strategies that would measure the progress toward those stated goals. The new five-year plan will determine what needs to be done to further improve the colleges to assist students in achieving success.

After a welcoming introduction from Los Rios Community College District’s Deputy Chancellor Sue Lorimer, she handed over the meeting to the strategic planning consultant Steve Weiss.
“This entire process is about engagement,” said Weiss, as he explained the procedure while everyone was able to ask questions and offer feedback.
“We collect all that information from each of the colleges and that goes back to the steering committee,” said Lorimer.
