City College students may have noticed two things at the start of the new semester: The new building housing Student Services and both the photography and journalism departments are finally open, and the first floor is crowded.
“There should be rope lines to keep it organized, because it looks like a block of people,” said City College student Hannah Trabucco.
Despite the criticism of organization by some, others, like English professor Marci Selva, praise the new building in the amenities.
“So far it’s very student friendly — it’s got a lot of space,” said Selva, who is one of several English professors who teach is the new classrooms. “Students are more comfortable with the spacious rooms.”
According to photography professor Paul Estabrook, the entire building cost approximately $53 million, with the a sizeable amount going toward all of the special equipment fitted in the new classrooms on the second floor, which include:
- High-definition projectors and adjustable light fixtures
- Two computer labs for photography and journalism students
- Two photography studios for shooting photos in different lighting
- A multi-media room for video, audio, and regular shooting.
