Beginning Aug. 23 City College will institute a new campus smoking policy.
“In addition to the current Los Rios Community College District (LRCCD) policy of no smoking within 30 feet of building entrances, outdoor air intakes and operable windows, there will now be no smoking on campus except in Designated Smoking Areas (DSAs),” states the “Smoking Matters” page in the Heath Services section of City College’s website
According to the website, the new smoking standard is based on feedback from City College’s participatory government groups and an extensive survey of students and City College employees about their opinions of smoking on campus.
“I started walking up to smokers on campus to inform them of the new smoking areas,” said City College President Dr. Kathryn E. Jeffrey in her speech during this year’s Convocation. “People were responsive.”
The City College website has a new “Designated Smoking Areas” page that has a location map of the new DSAs and clearly states the college’s smoking policy, including a definition of terms.
