As exams approach, City College offers a program called Beacon tutoring on the first floor of the Learning Resources Center to help students succeed on their tests.
The Beacon tutoring program is made up of trained peer tutors who work with faculty to provide a collaborative learning study group that encourages participants to interact with peers.
The Beacon program boasts an 85 percent pass rate for participants, compared to a 57 percent pass rate for non-participants in the same class.
Beacon offers tutoring in chemistry, music, anthropology, English writing, biology, and many other subjects.
While Beacon offers help with many subjects, it is not available to all classes.
Beacon advises always speaking with an instructor, especially when tutoring is not available.

The tutors prepare worksheets on the same material you’re learning in class that week. According to Beacon Chemistry 300 tutor Sherry Gamboa, she will try to answer any questions students may have.
