The City College men’s basketball team will head into the playoffs with a 15-10 overall record and 7-7 in the Big 8 Conference, which is a big change compared to last season’s final record of 8-17.
“We didn’t have as many sophomores last season,” said head coach Andrew Jones. “The group has grown together as a team from the beginning.”
When it comes to talk of a championship, City College is third in the league, but according to Jones, it’s too soon to say if they’ll take home the prize. Championships are not yet scheduled.
According to Greg Stahl, City College’s power forward, the team’s practices aren’t going to change much going into the playoffs. They will have the same routine since the beginning of summer.
“Going into the playoffs, the players have a good feeling they’ll do well because they don’t panic, have poise and stick to the game plan,” said Jones.
“We have a pretty good shot,” said shooting guard, Xavier Williford. “We’ve come far as a team, always worked hard and created stronger bonds.”
Williford said the team hopes to win the championship with a lot of hard work.
The only challenge Jones sees for this season is players not receiving the playing time they desire. However, the team has been selfless.
“This team, this year, that hasn’t been an issue,” said Jones. “It’s a good group of guys, and they support each other.”
