Despite a season filled with disappointing calls, close games and just missing out on the NorCal regional playoffs with their Nov. 12 loss against Cosumnes River 4-0, the women on the Panthers’ soccer team ended the season with their heads held high and their close-knit bond intact.
“We’re always doing something together, [we’re] always bonding all the time,” says Vivian Lozano, 21, one of the team’s captains. “[Even] outside of soccer.”
While finishing the season below 500 with a record of 7-9-5, the individual talent on the team was certainly not the problem.
“I have the best players ever. That’s why my expectations were really high,” says Coach Jang-Ha Oh. “Usually my team was kind of like, some good players, some OK players, and some beginners, but this year I had all 22 players [who] can play at this level.”
“We can go toe-to-toe with the best in the conference,” says assistant coach Jonathan Brickner.
