Panthers dominate Falcons in non-conference home game
After starting 3-3, the City College basketball team in mid-season has started to catch fire with 7-3 record and are currently on a five-game winning streak.
The Panthers moved to 4-3 Nov. 26 after defeating Solano College (2-6) 76-51 in their first home non-conference game of the season.
In the first half, the Panthers were up 12-8 with a little over 15 minutes to play and then took a 30-8 lead with 5:31 remaining in the first half of play. Freshman guard Greg Milton III led his team in scoring with 19 points. He also registered four assists and five steals.
“It’s expected from us,” said Milton on the team’s blowout win against the Falcons. “We have a lot of talent, and we should just keep on building from this one step at a time and push through–and keep grinding.”
After City College took the lead, the team was able to sustain it as the Falcons had a hard time keeping the Panthers out of the paint. Although the Panthers shot only 37 percent from the field, they were still able to be aggressive by getting to the free-throw line 19 times–shooting 73 percent on 14 made baskets. The Panthers were also able to move the ball effectively on offense, collecting a team total of 16 assists.

The second game of the tournament went into overtime, but City College came away with a 75-66 victory over Feather River College. Kyle Williams led the way with 20 points on 8-of-12 shots, including three 3-pointers. Mason Johnson took the reins for the Panthers in the 74-71 tournament-opening victory over Reedley College. Johnson finished the game with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
City College will play in the West Valley Holiday Classic Dec. 14-15. The Panthers’ next home game will be against Santa Rosa College at noon Dec. 28.
