No longer will City College’s Facebook be a collection of individual department pages and associated blogs. The campus’ new Facebook page, launched December 2010, is aimed at helping students stay informed in real-time via their phones and computers.

Students who log on and “Like” the new City College official page will find information from all departments on campus, including the Public Information Office, Financial Aid, the Learning Resource Center, Counseling services and the transfer department. The Express “Oh, Snap!” Photo of the Day will also be uploaded, as well as contributions from the theatre and art department.

A new feature coming to the site will be a private group for students new to City College. The group will provide students with tips and tricks for college success, as well as a chance to speak with other students.

Maxwell McKee, City College Public Relations Technician, believes the new group will be a positive tool for both City College staff and students.

“The new student private group is a nice place for these students to ask the more intimate questions,” McKee said.

Students’ reactions to the official page were mixed. Many students were unaware of the new Facebook page.

Justin Vallesteros, a continuing City College student, has used the new site. While some said the new site is easier to navigate, Vallesteros did not.

“It’s a little bit harder to use as compared to the older version,” Vallesteros said. “I liked the older version with the individual pages. The individual pages were much easier to use for me.”
