City College suffered a tough loss in their swim meet against American River College on Feb. 13 at Hoos Pool.

“It’s going to be a really, really close meet for both the men and the women,” Coach Jason Craighead said before the meet.

Most of the events were neck-and-neck, but when it came to the distance events, City College definitely dominated the pool.

In the 1650 meter freestyle, City College took first place in both the men’s and women’s events with John Cooper’s time of 17:34:80 and Dana Shepherd’s time of 19:47:36. Cooper and Shepherd also took first place in the 500 meter freestyle, with Cooper coming in at 5:03:89 and Shepherd at 5:34:78.

The final results showed scores of 52-43 for the men and 69-26 for the women.

“It was a close meet – like I thought.  Probably three or four races came down to a hundredth of a second and we were on the wrong sides of the hundredths of a second, unfortunately,” Craighead said.
