Philosophy professor dies

Richard Ownbey, a dedicated City College philosophy professor of over 20 years, died of cancer Jan 27.

“Rich was devoted to his students,” said Chris Iwata, the City College dean of Humanities and Fine Arts. “This was evident in the number of students with whom I have spoken who had taken two or three classes from him. Rich will be greatly missed by his colleagues and students.”

Iwata commented that Ownbey cared enough about his students and teaching that he made sure his fall 2010 grades were submitted before his death.
