April Campaign, election month for all SAC and CAEB psotions

The student government at City College, consisting of the Student Associated Council and the Clubs and Events Board, will hold its annual election April 14 and 15 to choose a new slate of officers for 2015-16.

Students planning to run in the election must complete and turn in their supplemental forms by 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. The forms can be found at
http://www.scc.losrios.edu/sld/elections/.

According to Kim Beyrer, coordinator for student leadership and development, students who plan to attend City College during the 2015 -2016 school year are encouraged to run for office and vote during the election period.

Beyrer said that both SAC and CAEB are seeking student candidates who excel in student advocacy and coordination to fill all positions.

“The Clubs and Events Board and the Student Senate, both a part of the Student Associated Council, are a great way to meet new people and have fun while
working to serve your fellow students,” said Beyrer. “Members gain invaluable experience shaping the campus culture and representing students that reflects highly for transfer, scholarship and job applications.”

According to Pia Lomboy, secretary of public relations for SAC, beyond well-earned, resume-worthy experience, student government offers a challenging, worthwhile and rewarding experience to students.

According to the SAC constitution, members of CAEB and SAC must be enrolled in the Los Rios Community College District, maintain a minimum of 5 units
and a 2.0 grade point average while in their positions.

“I feel that I have gained better communication skills [through SAC], and my leadership skills have grown,” said Lomboy. “Most importantly, though, I still have to set my priorities with out neglecting my academics.”

According to Lomboy and Beyrer, student government is a good way to make changes on campus and help students who feel like changes need to be made but do
not know how to have their voices heard.

“Beyond the classroom, SCC also offers a myriad of ways for connection and experiential learning,” said Beyrer. “All you need to do to matter at SCC is reach out, and students that feel like they matter on campus are happier and more successful.”

City College students are invited by SAC to meet campaigning candidates on the quad on April 7 and 9 from noon – 12:50 p.m., as well attend the Elections
Promotions Barbeque April 14 at 11:30 a.m. in the quad.

Student government positions begin July 1 and end June 30, 2016. Elections will be held April 14–15, and Byrer encouraged all students to vote using their eservices accounts between 7 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on these days.
