Lamont Blair, 40, of Sacramento has been coming to City College since 1988, when he enrolled here in college. He graduated three years later in 1991 with an associate arts degree in business management, but has continued to come each semester.
“Good atmosphere,” says Blair, explaining why he enjoys coming to City College, “and I like dealing with people.”
At the age of 15, Blair was diagnosed with a brain tumor. During the process of removing the tumor, he suffered a stroke that left the right side of his body paralyzed, but that hasn’t slowed him down one bit.
“Lamont helps me see that we all can overcome challenges in life, and the best way to do it is with a smile,” says Jeffery Christian, City College nurse and friend of Blair’s.
After overcoming what can best be described as a gargantuan obstacle, nothing seems to weigh down his spirit.
“I fear nothing really,” Blair says. “You grow wise with age.”

“He’s a ‘Dominologist’,” says Jonathon Willis, City College student and frequent challenger at Blair’s table.
There is no doubt that Blair is one of the best domino players here at City College—and possibly Sacramento. Dominoes have been his favorite activity to pass the time for well over 20 years.
“Immediately I knew that Lamont had much more than a mean game of dominos to offer this campus and the world,” Christian says. “Lamont has faith that what is going to happen is going to happen and that he is going to live his life to his potential.”
