Over 40 of City College’s clubs were showcased to students at its annual Club Day.

Club Day was held in the Student Center March 3. Several different clubs had tables open to explain activities and topics at their organizations for potential members.

The Chemistry Club featured an activity in which participating students were able to dip flowers in liquid nitrogen and then crush them.

“For Club Day I want to get more people to join Chemistry Club because it’s fun and it’s very informative,” said Rhoda Bongo, chemistry major.

Bongo said she hopes their presence at Club Day will help students to see chemistry as more than just a complicated course.

“We’re trying to do a lot of outreach and we want to end the negative stigma around chemistry.”

Some parts of the event were canceled because of the lack of space. Activities canceled included the talent show and the popular Cup Chuck stand, where students would pay $1 to throw a cupcake at professors.

Funded by the Mechanical Engineering Club, the Cup Chuck was used to raise money for club projects.

Also included was the Feminist Club, which asked students to sign a petition for more school resources to prevent sexual harassment.

“We’re really trying to get equal rights and equal safety for everybody on campus, and mental health services on campus for victim of rape and sexual harassment,” said Taylor Buck, social science major. “We don’t really have a counselor for that sort of thing on campus.”

All booths and activities were accompanied by live music played by DJ Nocturnal.

Because of the rain forecast, the event was held inside the Student Center instead of in the Quad.
