City College women’s soccer team hosted the Monterey Peninsula Lobos Sept. 1 in its home opener. The final score didn’t favor the Panthers as they lost 0-1, but it did reflect just how closely the game was contested. Something City College head coach Jang-Ha Oh was expecting.

“It was a close game. I knew it was going to be a close game, but I think we could’ve won,” said Oh.

The Panthers came out aggressive from the start of the game, pushing the ball up the field and attacking often. The team had a couple of shots on goal, but Oh wasn’t happy with where the shots came from.

“Two shots were from too far out, 30 to 35 yards long. I tell the players to shoot from 18 yards out, but we didn’t get many opportunities at 18 yards,” said Oh.

The second half of the game was a different story., and the Panthers came out lacking the same aggressive play they exhibited in the first half.

The Panthers will look to turn things around at the Oxnard Sea Breeze Tournament, Sept. 5, at Oxnard College, but Oh said the team has many things to work on before.

“We need to work on finishing and fundamental skills. We need better touches, better passes and better control,” said Oh.
