City College volleyball fights through the grind of a tough season
The women’s volleyball team wrapped up its 2018 season finishing 5-21, 2-14 in the Big 8 Conference. In their final game of the season, the Panthers were defeated by Cosumnes River College 3-1 Nov. 13.
The Panthers earned wins this season against City College of San Francisco, Shasta College, Lassen College, Cosumnes River College and Diablo Valley College.
Although the Panthers struggled to string together wins this season, head coach Laurie Nash credited her players for battling through all of the difficulties they’ve had to face this year.

The team suffered three season ending injuries, including Monica Ramirez, who hurt her ankle in a practice before the first game of the season.
In conference play, City College took five teams ranked in the top 15 in the state to four or more sets. In a road game against Big 8 champions Sierra College Oct. 24, the Panthers were defeated by the Wolverines (25-17, 23-25, 25-10, 25-21) but were able to keep the game competitive during the final set.
Middle Hitter Brittany Honeycutt was second in the state in blocks with 111 and fourth at blocks per set, averaging 1.17 per game. Jaylah Tate was fifth in state with kills per set (2.89) and sixth in kills with 272.
